Probecast vs Pingdom

SolarWinds' veteran monitoring product: uptime, transactions and real user monitoring for a company's own sites.

The short version

Pingdom is built for one company watching its own product, priced by monitor volume. Probecast is built for the dev or agency watching many client projects on a flat plan — up to 15 clients on Agency — with the client report included. Deep RUM on one product, pick Pingdom; a portfolio of client sites, pick Probecast.

Probecast is monitoring plus monthly client reports for devs and agencies who ship projects for other people. It watches websites, APIs, cron jobs, TCP ports, browser flows and public MCP servers from 4 regions, groups everything by client and ends each month in a white-label report — with an API, a CLI and an MCP server so your coding agent can manage monitors too.

When Pingdom is the better choice

  • One product, and real user monitoring of its pages matters to you.
  • You are already on the SolarWinds stack.
  • You need years of enterprise track record in the vendor file.

When Probecast is the better choice

  • You watch many small and medium client sites and want the bill to stay flat.
  • The deliverable is a client-ready report, not an internal dashboard.
  • You want revenue and support in the same picture as uptime.
FAQ
Does Probecast do RUM?

No. Probecast ships a cookieless first-party pixel for traffic, campaigns and conversion — lighter than RUM and client-friendly — plus synthetic browser checks for the flows that matter. If per-pageview performance timing is the requirement, Pingdom is the better fit.

What does "flat plan" mean exactly?

Plans are priced by tier, not per monitor: Agency covers up to 15 clients, 100 website monitors, 100 custom API checks and the full catalog for $150/mo. The published caps are the whole price.
